Villa La Joya Wedding - Playa del Carmen
Jessica & Luyang

9th November, 2019
Villa La Joya is best described as a luxurious home, quite literally a stones throw away from the beach. This beauty of a place was also where Jessica and Lu hosted their destination wedding in Playa del Carmen. Let us share with you a little about this adorable couple and their special wedding in Villa la Joya.
How did you meet?
We met each other in high school! We had the same 4th period social studies teacher in 9th grade and had mutual friends that introduced us to each other. From there we began to date in high school, throughout college and while Jessica was in graduate school.
What was your first date?
Our first date was a school dance called the Sadie Hawkins Dance. Traditionally a girl asks a boy to the dance and wear matching outfits. I asked Lu to the dance via a scavenger hunt and we spent hours shopping for the perfect matching outfit!
How and where did Lu propose to you?
Lu had a very special dinner planned at a restaurant on the Seattle waterfront. Afterwards he took Jessica for a ride on the Seattle Great Wheel (a giant Ferris wheel overlooking the water). The plan was to ask Jessica while in the gondola, but Lu got too nervous. Jessica enjoyed the romantic dinner date and much to her surprise had an even bigger present waiting at home when Lu finally popped the big question!
What was the most memorable moment of your Mexico destination wedding?
The most memorable moment of our wedding was when we all jumped into the pool at the end of the night! Everyone was so hot and ready for dive in!
What was the most funny moment of your Mexico destination wedding?
The most funny moment of the wedding was Lu’s seductive dance to “Hot in Herre” while fishing for Jessica’s garter for the garter toss.
Why did you choose Villa La Joya as your wedding venue?
Villa La Joya looks is like a venue straight from a famous movie. The venue is elegant and so beautiful. Since the venue is so grand, additional décor can be minimal so the venue can shine for itself! And to top it off, it is right next to the beautiful ocean – one of our wedding venue requirements!
Give us a summary of your wedding day in Playa del Carmen
Our wedding day started off a little rocky with a crazy rainstorm. But you know what they say - rain on your wedding day is good luck because it signifies that your marriage will last. The wedding party and guests finally began to arrive at the wedding venue and the sun finally came out in time for our ceremony. Our wedding was intimate and included a group of our closet family and friends. Jessica created a slideshow of pictures and videos of the bride and groom throughout their lives and their relationship and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. The night was filled with amazing music, dancing, and delicious food and drinks! The group ended the night with a bang and jumped into the Villa la Joya pool to cool down from the Mexican heat.
